Scientific Writing - Advanced Course

Target Group
Scientific Writing is geared towards researchers and employees with academic backgrounds who need to express themselves in written English and in the exact scientific terms while meeting the high professional standards of their individual fields. The course aims to improving the participants’ practical qualifications in written English so that each participant has the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve the same linguistic level in written English as in their written Danish.

Purpose
The overall purpose is to impart to the participants the ability to write clean, concise and advanced scientific texts without excessive use of either the passive voice or convoluted syntax, which often clutters academic writing in general.

Content
1. A basic course of grammar, orthography and punctuation, focusing on the ability to write English independently to achieve a basic linguistic level of at least 4.00 on a scale from 0.00 to 5.00. In order to acquire these qualifications, written tasks are included in the course.

2. An advanced course focusing on the ability both to write articles as well as to discuss papers and reports of a high international and scientific standard. The participants are to compose 8 pieces of homework, based on their job and scientific production with the aim of achieving a level between 4.5 and 4.75 on the above scale. Written standard tasks are included in the lessons, with subsequent exercises and references to teaching material.

Each specific writing task will provide the basis for diversified personal coaching and writing development which focuses on each participant’s individual learning objectives and needs.
