Scientific Writing - Elementary Course
Target Group
Scientific Writing is geared towards researchers and employees with academic
backgrounds who need to express themselves in written English and in the
exact scientific terms while meeting the high professional standards of
their individual fields. The course aims to improving the participants’
practical qualifications in written English so that each participant has
the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve the same linguistic level
in written English as in their written Danish.
Purpose
The overall purpose is to impart to the participants the ability to write
clean, concise and advanced scientific texts without excessive use of
either the passive voice or convoluted syntax, which often clutters academic
writing in general.
Content
1. A basic course of grammar, orthography and punctuation,
focusing on the ability to write English independently to achieve a basic
linguistic level of at least 4.00 on a scale from 0.00 to 5.00. In order
to acquire these qualifications, written tasks are included in the course.
2. An advanced course focusing on the ability both to
write articles as well as to discuss papers and reports of a high international
and scientific standard. The participants are to compose 8 pieces of homework,
based on their job and scientific production with the aim of achieving
a level between 4.5 and 4.75 on the above scale. Written standard tasks
are included in the lessons, with subsequent exercises and references
to teaching material.
Each specific writing task will provide the basis for diversified
personal coaching and writing development which focuses on each participant’s
individual learning objectives and needs.
Teachers
We have a professional and highly qualified teaching staff, each with
a British or American academic background, as well as comprehensive teaching
experience with advanced written English courses for academic and scientific
purposes.
Course and Duration
6 days of 3.5 lessons; lessons of 45 minutes each, and a break of 15 minutes.
Over the duration of the course, participants are to write and turn in
8 written tasks of 2-3 pages each.
The course is held on Tuesdays, from 0.9. to 12.00.
