English for Academic Lecturers - advanced

Aim

This course is geared towards academic teachers of upper level special subject courses who need to be able give lectures regarding their specific subject and discuss the subject with their students all in English. 

The ultimate goal of the course is for the instructors to come across as
professionals in their field just as well in English as they do in Danish.

Contents

The course will contain the following elements:

  • Brush-up in oral English with focus on quickly achieving a level of a fluent,easily understood, varied  language.
  • Practical exercise in teaching concrete subject matter and practice in conducting presentations and lectures for the other class members.Practice in presenting, explaining and discussing matters regarding the relevant subjects in English.
  • Practice in handling spontaneous questions from students in a professional and sensible manner
    Inclusion of own subject related material to learn the subject-specificEnglishvocabulary and its pronunciation and specific meanings.
  • Constructive feedback and individual coaching for each class member regarding pronunciation, grammar and active vocabulary. The participants are expected to prepare and conduct shorter and longer oral presentations.

Participants
Academic teachers at the University of Copenhagen as well as Ph.D.-students(ECTS-points will be assigned).

Course Leader
The course instructor has either an American or British educational background,
fully accredited academic credentials in English language and composition, and has
extensive experience teaching scientific and technical writing.

Length
The length of the course is 10 weeks in total. Each class will meet once a week for three lessons, each lesson being 45 minuttes.

Wednesdays from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
